Job Description

  • As a Social Studies Teacher in New Jersey, you'll be responsible for engaging students in the study of history, civics, geography, and other social sciences, fostering critical thinking, and preparing them for informed citizenship

  • Curriculum Development and Instruction:
  • Plan, develop, and implement engaging lessons and activities aligned with New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) and district curriculum
  • Use a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, group projects, and technology, to cater to diverse learning styles
  • Create and deliver high-quality lesson plans, unit plans, and long-term plans
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with special needs
  • Student Assessment and Feedback:
  • Continuously assess student learning through various methods, including formative and summative assessments
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their learning and progress
  • Track student achievement data and use it to inform instructional planning and delivery
  • Classroom Management and Environment:
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters respect, collaboration, and critical thinking
  • Implement and enforce classroom rules and procedures consistently and fairly
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other relevant information
  • Professional Development and Collaboration:
  • Stay current with best practices in social studies education through ongoing professional development
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student learning and success

  • Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong understanding of social studies content, including history, civics, geography, and other social sciences
  • Knowledge of teaching pedagogy and instructional strategies
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth
  • Certification:
  • Possess a New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) in Social Studies
  • Hold a current and valid teaching certificate in the appropriate subject/content area issued by the New Jersey Department of Education.
