Qualifications

  • A master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.2
  • New Jersey Administrator's certificate endorsed as Principal, N.J.A.C. 6:11-10.4.3
  • A minimum of five years teaching experience and three years of administrative and/or supervisory experience.4

Responsibilities

  • Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.2
  • Assists in observing, supervising and evaluating the performance of teachers and other certified staff members.3
  • Works with department heads in curriculum development, review, and evaluation by: a
  • Assisting in reviewing the results of program evaluation and student achievement with staff and making recommendations to the principal for curriculum modification. b
  • Seeking input from staff and other appropriate personnel to assess the curriculum in terms of the educational needs of all students.4
  • Assists in the development of inservice programs for teachers in order to improve teacher performance and student achievement.5
  • Assists in the use of micro-computers in instructional areas.6
  • Assists in checking lesson plans for teachers on a regularly scheduled basisby: a
  • Encouraging staff in the areas of experimentation, innovation, enrichment, and analysis of course objectives. b
  • Helps staff members in proper lesson planning, when necessary.7
  • Assists in developing school goals and objectives that are consistent with district goals and are in compliance with state monitoring standards.8
  • Assists in the development and preparation of the school master schedule.9
  • Works with department heads and faculty in compiling the annual budget requests.10
  • Assists in making recommendations in the selection and use of textbooks, instructional materials, and equipment.11
  • Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance in accordance with the district attendance policy.12
  • Performs such record keeping functions as the principal may direct.13
  • Assists in operational and organizational matters within the school, including student discipline.14
