Qualifications

  • 1
  • High school graduate or equivalency preferred 2
  • Three acceptable character references 3
  • Willingness to work with all types of students under varied conditions 4
  • Previous experience supervising children preferred 5
  • Satisfactory health status
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status 6
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: To supervise students to establish and maintain a calm and pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for directing students in proper behavior. a
  • Organizes students into orderly lines of purchasing food and sees that they go to assigned tables. b
  • Helps students develop and observe proper dining habits, both in terms of etiquette and nutrition. c
  • Assists younger students with utensils when needed. d
  • Organizes groups for orderly dismissal from the lunchroom. 2
  • Assumes responsibility for observing student behavior in the cafeteria. a
  • Actively monitors student behavior by roaming throughout the cafeteria. b
  • Intervenes in situations to prevent bullying. c
  • Provides warnings to students on inappropriate behavior
  • Reports to certified staff when behavior isn’t corrected. d. works with students in a calm and encouraging demeanor
  • Cultivates an attitude of mutual respect. 3
  • Assumes responsibility for providing progressive discipline. a
  • Communicates expectations clearly and appropriately. b
  • Provides discipline in accordance with district policies. c
  • When required, refers discipline problems to the principal using established procedures. 4
  • Supports office personnel in their daily duties. a

Requirements

  • Position holder must be able to move round the cafeteria to view student behavior, communicate effectively with students and staff
  • Position holder must be able to see documents clearly to sort mail and file correspondence, stand and reach to put mail in mail boxes and make copies, and be able to lift items up to (5) lbs. to put paper in the copier
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a school setting with exposure to health and/or safety hazards
  • The noise level in this environment is usually moderate.
