Qualifications

  • Must have knowledge and experience in maintaining HVAC equipment throughout the district. 2
  • Must have knowledge and experience with operating, repairing and performing preventative maintenance on boilers, chillers, DDC controls, pneumatics, air handlers and all related equipment. 3
  • Must be proficient at troubleshooting HVAC problems in a school environment. 4
  • Must have or be able to obtain a NJ Black Seal license. 5
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively. 6
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of citizenship or legal resident alien status. 7
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with fellow employees
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1
  • Required to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and be able to talk or hear. 2
  • Required to continuously use hand strength to grasp tools more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. 3
  • Required to frequently bend, reach forward, squat and twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. 4
  • Required to frequently move or lift up to 75 pounds repetitively. 5

  • REPORTS TO: SUPERVISOR OF BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS JOB GOAL: To repair and maintain all HVAC equipment including boilers, chillers, DDC controls, pneumatics, air handlers and all other related equipment
  • PERFORMANCE

Responsibilities

  • 1
  • Repairs and maintains all types of air conditioning and refrigeration units.2
  • Repairs and maintains gas, hot water, and hot air furnace. 3
  • Repairs and maintains air handlers, ventilators, cooling coils and radiators along with other mechanical heating and ventilating equipment. 4
  • Understands and applies basic electricity theory OHMS Law and its application. 5
  • Has been schooled in HVAC controls and can troubleshoot, repair and diagnose control problems. 6
  • Monitors and coordinates control panels and thermostats of all systems to maintain standard working temperature
  • Understands pneumatic controls, EP switches and actuators. 7
  • Performs regular preventative maintenance and boiler water treatment programs for all heating and air conditioning equipment if required. 8
  • May be required to be on 24-hour call. 9
  • Can use a Laptop computer in conjunction with various control software to adjust equipment programs and repair equipment parameters of operation. 10
  • Has a valid driver's license. 11
  • Provide to the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds a list of all supplies, tools and equipment needed to repair and maintain the HVAC systems. 12
  • Monitors heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures which are appropriate to the season. 13
  • Obeys all fire/safety and environmental laws and adheres to regulations relating to the plant operation. 14
  • Reports all items of safety and equipment failure to the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds. 15
  • Must be able to operate vehicles with snowplows, sand and salt spreaders. 16
  • Required to shovel, salt, sweep and take necessary steps to remove snow during storms to insure students and staff of safe passage to and from building entrances and driveways. 17
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Black Seal License within one year. 18
  • Performs all work-related duties as assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the job. 19
  • Any and all tasks as designated by the Superintendent
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Yearly contract as determined by the Board of Education.
