Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Education from accredited university, with a Master's Degree preferred. 2
  • Hold a valid New Jersey teaching certificate, with Bilingual/Bicultural Education and/or ESL endorsement. 3
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years' experience in areas related to Bilingual Education and/or ESL. 4
  • Have a background in providing professional development through workshops and/or mentoring. 5
  • Have experience and knowledge regarding WIDA Standards and WIDA ACCESS administration. 6
  • Have excellent experience in teaching and working with children/students. 7
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative. 8
  • Have the ability to implement developmentally appropriate curricula and structured teaching practices for teachers in bilingual, ESL, and Sheltered English Instruction settings. 9
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community
  • REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF BILINGUAL EDUCATION, ESL, AND WORLD LANGUAGES SUPERVISES: NA JOB GOAL: The Bilingual/ESL Instructional Coach focuses on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of effective researchedbased instruction
  • In order to meet this purpose, the Bilingual/ESL Instructional Coach will provide personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers
  • The Bilingual/ESL Instructional Coach focuses on enhancing teachers' ability to provide instruction that (1) builds student understanding and skills, (2) addresses language acquisition best practices, (3) is academically rigorous, (4) addresses the curriculum standards and frameworks, and (5) enhances student engagement in, and ownership of learning

Responsibilities

  • AND DUTIES: Program Management 1
  • Plan and present training sessions to help raise the level of instructional performance to increase student achievement of Multilingual Learners as directed by the Bilingual/ESL Director; 2
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, principals, Bilingual/ESL director, curriculum director, and others on content problems to find solutions to meet student/district needs; 3
  • Compile, maintain, and analyze reports, records, and other documents required on student achievement; 4
  • Comply with policies established by state and federal law, State Board of Education Rule, and the local board policy in the area of Bilingual/ESL education and curriculum and instruction
  • Curriculum Support 1
  • Assist teachers in understanding and successfully implementing the curriculum; 2
  • Meet regularly with teachers to plan high quality instruction using effective teaching practices; 3
  • Consult with teachers, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students
  • Instructional Support 1
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to refine their knowledge and skills through activities such as in-class coaching, modeling instructional strategies, guiding teachers in looking at student work, developing lesson plans based on student needs and assessments, supporting the integration of technology, and co-planning/co-teaching; 2
  • Provide direct, classroom-based professional development for teachers through classroom modeling and feedback; 3
  • Regularly meet with teachers to assist in selecting effective instructional supplies, equipment and materials to support the delivery of the district curriculum; 4
  • Assist staff members in determining instructional strategies that reflect understanding of the diverse language and academic needs of students; 5
  • Analyze student achievement data and assist with intervention plans based on data
  • Professional Development/Growth The instructional coach provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following: 1
  • Maintains current knowledge of professional trends and developments affecting Bilingual/ESL and curriculum and instruction. 2
  • Participates fully in professional development for coaches, professional research and reading, and inquiry sessions. 3
  • Demonstrates knowledge of research-based instructional strategies that engage all students. 4
  • Demonstrates knowledge using a variety of assessment tools. 5
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Meetings and Committees 1
  • Schedules and organizes individual teacher or grade level meetings in order to effect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program of the schools. 2
  • Plans and presents a series of meetings each year for the purpose of interpreting data in order to positively affect instruction and student achievement outcomes

  • EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of certified personnel
