Responsibilities

  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.Plans lessons jointly with the student's regular classroom teacher to assure student success in the regular classroom.Consults the regular classroom teacher on learning strategies for English Language Learner.Supports students affectively in adjusting to their environment.Keeps accurate student records on each individual student's performance, as required.Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and - in harmony with the goals - establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.Recognizes the learning disabilities of students and seeks the assistance of district specialists as required.Consults with colleagues, students and/or parents on a regular basis.Assists the administration in implementing and supervising all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional associates and resource assistants and/or volunteers and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.Attends staff meeting and serves on staff committees as required.Supervises extracurricular activities that relate to individual teaching assignments or areas assigned by the building administrator.Performs such other duties as directed by the building administrator.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Ten month year
