- Substitute Aide Position Purpose - Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives, and to free certified professional employees from non-professional duties such as proctoring study halls to enable them to make a contribution to other aspects of the educational program, such as curriculum development
- Essential Job Functions 1
- To assist the teacher in working with individual students and small groups of students or to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher. 2
- To assist the teacher in data collection for evaluating achievement as specified in the Instructional Guide of the Individualized Education Plan under the direction of the teacher. 3
- Under the direction of the teacher, to assist in devising special strategies for reinforcement of materials, skills and classroom management. 4
- Under Teacher’s direction assist child in addressing IEP goals and objectives. 5
- Under Teacher’s direction facilitate child’s classroom integration and participation in group activities. 6
- Maintain daily anecdotal notes of behavior. 7
- Record student task performance and progress daily. 8
- Implement behavior management plan as directed. 9
- Guide independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up as assigned by the teacher. 10
- Assist in checking notebooks, correcting papers and monitoring testing and make up work as assigned by the teacher. 11
- Assist the teacher with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, etc. 12
- Serve as a source of information and assist the substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher. 13
- Alert the classroom teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student. 14
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as expected of teachers. 15
- Will accompany and assist the monitoring of students in situations other than those existing in the classroom environment (eg: bus duty, lunch room duty, specials) and other related duties as assigned by the classroom teacher. - Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs

- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. - Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students. - Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel). - Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals. - Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others. - Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs. - Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. - Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required. - Effective writing and verbal communication skills

- Profile - Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying
- Typical
Qualifications
- would be equivalent to: - High School diploma or equivalent and or 60 college credits - Substitute Certificate preferred - Prior experience working with special needs children desirable.
