Job description

  • : The Trauma-Informed Clinical Specialist will provide integrated, school-based mental health and behavioral support within the Regional Achievement Academy, an out-of-district program serving students with significant social, emotional, and behavioral needs
  • This role emphasizes in-classroom support, crisis response, and staff capacity-building, while also maintaining a small, targeted caseload for individual and group student support
  • The position requires a clinician who can work in dynamic environments, respond to student needs in real time, and support the development of a consistent, trauma-informed program across classrooms

Qualifications

  • Master's or higher degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field
  • Active New Jersey clinical licensure required
  • Candidates must hold one of the following:a
  • Licensed Clinical Social Workerb
  • Licensed Professional Counselorc
  • Licensed Psychologistd
  • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
  • Related licensure may also be considered with appropriate supervision, including:a
  • Licensed Social Workerb
  • Licensed Associate Counselor
  • Experience working with trauma-related conditions
  • Training and experience in trauma-informed practices and evidence-based modalities such as: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy / Dialectical Behavior Therapy / Solution-Focused Therapy
  • Strong knowledge of complex trauma, developmental trauma, and Adverse Childhood Experiences and their impact on student behavior and learning
  • Experience working with school-aged children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional needs.Background in crisis intervention and de-escalation in school or clinical settings preferred
  • Knowledge of special education systems, including IEPs, 504 plans and out of district placements preferred
  • Knowledge of NJ Children's System of Care preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, including varied cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

  • PERFORMANCE

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time behavioral and emotional support to students within classroom settings
  • De-escalate crisis situations and support immediate stabilization of students
  • Conduct risk assessments related to harm to self or others as needed
  • Support the development and implementation of trauma-informed behavior plans aligned with student needs
  • Work directly within classrooms to model strategies that support student regulation and engagement
  • Provide professional development and ongoing coaching to staff on trauma-informed practices, including the application of Adverse Childhood Experiences-informed approaches
  • Maintain targeted caseload of students and provide individual and/or small group sessions focused on skill-building, emotional regulation, and short-term therapeutic support aligned with school-based goals
  • Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, case managers and administration
  • Participate in IEP-related planning and support alignment of clinical and educational programming
  • Maintain appropriate documentation in accordance with program and compliance

  • Apply culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate practices when supporting students and families
  • Adapt interventions and strategies to meet the needs of students in a highly structured, behaviorally intensive, and fast-paced educational environment
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, 10 months (Monday - Friday: 7:00am-2:00pm)

Salary

  • : $68,142 - $85,796
