- Thrive Charter School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and student-focused High School Counselor (Grades 9-12) to join our student support team

- The Grades 9-12 School Counselor plays a vital role in supporting students through high school and preparing them for post-secondary success
- This position provides academic advising, individual and group counseling, crisis support, and college/career planning services while collaborating with staff, families, and community partners
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, social, and emotional development
- Assist students with academic planning, scheduling, credit tracking, and graduation
Requirements
- Support college and career readiness, including applications, FAFSA, scholarships, and post-secondary planning
- Monitor student attendance, behavior, and academic performance to provide targeted interventions
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success
- Participate in MTSS/RTI and student support team meetings
- Provide crisis intervention and short-term counseling support as needed
- Deliver social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons and programming for students
- Maintain accurate, confidential student records in accordance with state and school guidelines
- Coordinate referrals to outside agencies and support services when appropriate
- Support transition planning for students entering post-secondary education, training, or workforce pathways
Qualifications
- Master's degree in School Counseling or related field (required)NJDOE certification as a School Counselor (or eligibility for certification) required
- Experience working with high school students preferred
- Strong understanding of adolescent development, college/career readiness, and social-emotional learning
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and staff

- Experience in college advising or post-secondary planning
- Familiarity with FAFSA, scholarship processes, and college application systems
- Experience in a diverse school environment
- Training in trauma-informed practices or restorative approaches
- Strong advocacy skills for student success and equity
