  • Thrive Charter School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and student-focused High School Counselor (Grades 9-12) to join our student support team

  • The Grades 9-12 School Counselor plays a vital role in supporting students through high school and preparing them for post-secondary success
  • This position provides academic advising, individual and group counseling, crisis support, and college/career planning services while collaborating with staff, families, and community partners

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to support students' academic, social, and emotional development
  • Assist students with academic planning, scheduling, credit tracking, and graduation

Requirements

  • Support college and career readiness, including applications, FAFSA, scholarships, and post-secondary planning
  • Monitor student attendance, behavior, and academic performance to provide targeted interventions
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success
  • Participate in MTSS/RTI and student support team meetings
  • Provide crisis intervention and short-term counseling support as needed
  • Deliver social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons and programming for students
  • Maintain accurate, confidential student records in accordance with state and school guidelines
  • Coordinate referrals to outside agencies and support services when appropriate
  • Support transition planning for students entering post-secondary education, training, or workforce pathways

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in School Counseling or related field (required)NJDOE certification as a School Counselor (or eligibility for certification) required
  • Experience working with high school students preferred
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development, college/career readiness, and social-emotional learning
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Preferred

Qualifications

  • Experience in college advising or post-secondary planning
  • Familiarity with FAFSA, scholarship processes, and college application systems
  • Experience in a diverse school environment
  • Training in trauma-informed practices or restorative approaches
  • Strong advocacy skills for student success and equity
