- Thrive Charter School is seeking a highly skilled, passionate, and student-centered K-12 Reading Specialist to join our instructional support team
- The ideal candidate will provide targeted literacy intervention, instructional coaching, and data-driven support to improve reading outcomes for students across all grade levels.Position Overview
- The K-12 Reading Specialist will work collaboratively with teachers, intervention teams, and administrators to strengthen literacy instruction and support struggling readers
- This role focuses on assessment, intervention, and instructional coaching to ensure all students develop strong foundational and advanced reading skills
Responsibilities
- Provide direct reading intervention to students in grades K-12Conduct literacy assessments and analyze student data to guide instruction
- Develop and implement targeted intervention plans for struggling readers
- Support phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension development
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to improve core reading instruction
- Provide instructional coaching and modeling for staff in evidence-based literacy practices
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions accordingly
- Support MTSS/RTI processes and literacy team initiatives
- Assist in developing school-wide literacy strategies and programs
- Communicate student progress with teachers, families, and support staff
- Support implementation of structured literacy approaches as appropriate
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading, Special Education, or related field (required)NJDOE certification in Reading Specialist, Literacy, Elementary Education, or related certification (required or eligible)Experience working with students across multiple grade levels (K-12 preferred)Strong knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction and intervention strategies
- Experience with literacy assessments and data-driven instruction
- Strong collaboration, communication, and instructional coaching skills
- Preferred
Qualifications
- Training in structured literacy, Orton-Gillingham, or Science of Reading approaches
- Experience in MTSS/RTI or literacy intervention programs
- Experience working in diverse school settings
- Strong background in instructional coaching or teacher support
- Ability to support both elementary and secondary literacy needs
