- Thrive Charter School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and highly skilled Self-Contained Special Education Teacher for Grades 6-12 to join our special education team
- The ideal candidate will provide intensive, individualized instruction to students with significant learning needs in a structured, supportive classroom environment while promoting academic, behavioral, and functional skill development
- Position Overview
- The Grades 6-12 Self-Contained Special Education Teacher will serve students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) who require a more supportive instructional setting
- This role focuses on delivering modified grade-level content, functional academics, and individualized instruction designed to meet each student's unique needs while supporting progress toward academic achievement, independence, and post-secondary readiness
Responsibilities
- Provide direct instruction in a self-contained classroom for students in grades 6-12Implement, monitor, and maintain compliance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)Deliver differentiated and modified instruction in core academic areas (ELA, math, science, and social studies as appropriate)Develop and implement individualized instructional plans based on student needs and data
- Support students' social-emotional, behavioral, and functional life skills development
- Use data-driven instruction to monitor progress and adjust teaching strategies
- Implement positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) and behavior management plans
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion opportunities when appropriate
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and needs
- Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, and multidisciplinary team discussions
- Collaborate with related service providers (speech, OT, PT, counseling, etc.)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (required)NJDOE certification in Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) and/or appropriate Special Education certification (required or eligible)Experience working with students with moderate to significant disabilities preferred
- Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and behavior management strategies
- Knowledge of IEP development, compliance, and progress monitoring
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills

Qualifications
- Experience in self-contained or specialized special education classrooms
- Training in behavior intervention strategies (e.g., PBIS, de-escalation techniques)Experience supporting students across both middle and high school grade levels
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
