Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree
  • NATA Certification
  • New Jersey Registration
  • Coordinator of Athletics, school physician, and/or building principal
  • To be responsible for the care, treatment, and prevention of athletic injuries to al1 student athletes involved in the interscholastic program, and to work with coaches to ensure that all student athletes are given proper medical care and treatment

Responsibilities

  • The Athletic Trainer will:Schedule work

Hours

  • to be in attendance at regularly scheduled practice sessions and athletic contests.Administer first aid when necessary, and/or arrange for medical or hospital care.Make available supplies for all team's medical kits during season.Supervise the training room, including:Rules, regulations and procedures in the training room
  • Keeping the room in an orderly and sanitary state
  • Ordering and maintenance of training room supplies
  • Maintenance of records of injuries, accident reports and insurance forms.5

  • game application of proper taping technique, bandages and/or wraps for the prevention or reoccurrence of injuries; apply protective or injury

  • Work closely with all coaches with respect to conditioning, first aid, reconditioning of injuries, and providing for the well-being of athletes in the program.7
  • Work as a liaison with the school nurses.8
  • Work cooperatively with, and under the direction of the school physician with regard to:Reconditioning procedures
  • Operation of therapeutic devices and equipment
  • Fitting of braces, guards, and other devices
  • Referral to the family physician, health services or hospital
  • Carrying out the instruction of the physician with regard to treatment of athletic injuries.9
  • Counsel and advise athletes and coaches on matters pertaining to conditioning and training, such as diet, rest, and rehabilitation.10
  • Attend away tournaments and athletic contests at the discretion of the Coordinator of athletics.11
  • Supervise, and when necessary instruct, student trainers and staff under his/her jurisdiction.12
  • Assist physicians and nurses with the administration and organization of pre-season physicals.13
  • Make decisions as to whether athlete is game-fit and as necessary consult with school physician.14
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.15
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence and to keep abreast of latest trainer methods.16
  • Assume other trainer related duties and assignments as administration deems necessary.17
  • Attend and participate in meetings as deemed necessary and consistent with the needs of the district.18
  • Maintain certifications in first aid and CPR.19
  • Submit injury reports by Monday of each week to the Coordinator of Athletics
