- Position: Bus Mechanic
- Position Summary
- Under the direct supervision of the Head Mechanic, the Bus Mechanic is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, inspection, and repair of school buses and other district vehicles
- This position supports daily transportation operations by ensuring all vehicles are safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable regulations.Key
Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of school bus engines, transmissions, brakes, and related mechanical systems
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with NJDOT and district schedules
- Assist with disassembly and reassembly of engines and major components
- Inspect, service, and repair tires, including mounting and balancing as needed
- Perform routine servicing including oil changes, lubrication, and fluid checks
- Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work orders
- Assist with fueling, lubricating, and maintaining shop equipment and supplies
- Support troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Mechanic
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of mechanical tools, equipment, and safety practices
- Basic understanding of diesel engines and automotive systems preferred
- Ability to use and learn diagnostic and repair equipment
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Criminal History approval from the state of New Jersey License
Requirements
- Valid New Jersey Driver's License required
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements required or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe Compensation
- Hourly Rate: $29.00 per hour
- Position is 12-month, full-time, with eligibility for overtime,
