- The teacher supports students in developing research, critical thinking, discussion, and analytical skills while fostering an understanding of how historical, cultural, political, and geographic forces shape societies and influence one another.The Social Studies Teacher also promotes respect for diverse cultures, perspectives, languages, racial and ethnic groups, religions, and systems of government.Essential Functions
- Plans and delivers instruction aligned to district goals, curriculum, and the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.Develops and implements lesson plans and instructional materials that engage students in meaningful learning experiences.Organizes instruction around key historical and social studies concepts, questions, and problems to promote inquiry and critical thinking.Uses a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.Assesses student progress regularly and uses data to inform instruction.Creates a positive classroom environment that supports student learning, participation, and responsible citizenship.Encourages students to make connections among historical, geographic, economic, political, and cultural topics.Communicates effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress and program needs.Additional Duties
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other administrators designated by the Superintendent.Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of current instructional practices, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction.Knowledge of social studies content, including history, geography, civics, economics, sociology, political science, systems of government, responsible citizenship, anthropology, and humanities, as outlined in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.Ability to plan and deliver effective instruction that supports varied learning needs and styles.Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Qualifications
- Certification/License:Valid New Jersey Social Studies certification or Certificate of Eligibility required.
